DESCRIPTION:The French Society of Orthopedic and Traumatological Surgery (SOFCOT) emanated from the French Orthopedic Society (1918) and then from the French Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (1938) is 45 years old; \nInitially a learned society\, it became professional by federating four structures essential to its functioning and its representativity: the Academy of Orthopedics and Traumatology (AOT)\, the French College of Orthopedic Surgeons and Traumatologists (CFCOT)\, the national union of orthopedic surgeons and traumatologists (SNCO)\, Orthorisq\, by coordinating the own activity of “subspecialty” companies such as the 8 associated companies: SOFROT\, SOFEC\, SFHG\, AFCP\, SFCR\, SOFOP\, CAOS\, GETRAUM and by establishing privileged relations with companies such as the three partner companies: SFA\, SFCM and SOO. \nAOT is the scientific organ. \nThe CFCOT is the academic training body in connection with the National Council of Universities and Professional. \nThe SNCO is the defense body of professional practice. \nOrthorisq is the accreditation body for risk management. \nThis structure\, created eight years ago\, was innovative because it foreshadowed the National Occupational Council (CNP) for orthopedic and traumatological surgery\, which\, in keeping with its governance\, must establish a public-private parity this year. This NPC will be the origin of a continuing professional development organization (CPOA) with different governance\, whose function will be to establish by June 2013 a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program with the current structures of SOFCOT. \nThe SOFCOT under its SOFCOT-CNP configuration will remain in its field “orthopedic and traumatological surgery” the privileged interlocutor of the tutelles: DGS\, HAS\, ANSM\, CEPS\, CNEDMITS\, Ministries … and its members. \nThe SOFCOT created last year under the aegis of the Fondation de France a foundation (FICOT) whose purpose is to promote through the distribution of scholarships innovation in orthopedic and traumatological surgery. \nThe SOFCOT association governed by the law of 1901 is currently governed by a Directory of twelve orthopedic surgeons integrating the representatives of the four aforementioned essential structures and the CNU which makes proposals to an expanded office of twenty-five orthopedic surgeons who decides. \nThe Executive Board is advised in the elaboration of its proposals by the coordinators of the committees\, which report annually on their work. Thus were created taking into account the functions of their participants and dimensioned to be efficient nine commissions: The scientific council\, the commission of ethics\, the commission of materiovigilance and the registers\, the commission of the nomenclature\, the commission of outpatient surgery\, the ortho-geriatrics commission\, the e-learning commission and websites: congress and association\, the scholarship commission and the communication commission. The two highest scoring graduates of this examination are awarded a travelling fellowship from the German Section of SICOT which provides a fully funded tour of the German centres of excellence. The SICOT Journal\, International Orthopaedics\, has shown steady gains in the Philadelphia-based publication reference rating. SICOT’s Manual of Education Objectives is there to guide trainees along a map to the goal of full training. The SICOT group on Facebook and e-Newsletter is used widely for continuous communication among members and interested non-members. It spreads the word\, announcements and conversations among members. The SICOT Fellowships offer unique opportunities for education and exchange. The SICOT Foundation helps to provide funds for travel to conferences and to work with masters of surgery in notable teaching centres. Young Surgeons Workshops provide forums for learning from invited experts but of particular importance\, they allow young surgeons an opportunity to present their own research to their colleagues. \nAn increasingly successful initiative has been the creation of Orthopaedic Education Centres. They provide an opportunity for education\, research and manual skills training. They are open to community surgeons\, nurses and physiotherapists. In fact\, they can bring a whole orthopaedic community together.

Certes\, les obligations professionnelles qui nous\nincombent\, quel que soit notre type d’exercice\, sont multiples\,\nastreignantes\, complexes\, parfois même à la limite de l’absurde.\nPour autant\, nous ne pouvons y échapper dans notre système\nde médecine conventionnelle très administrativement contrôlée.\nAinsi\, les obligations plus ou moins opposables qui nous sont\nfaites par l’administration et ses agences doivent être connues des\ninstances professionnelles et peuvent toujours être négociées\,\nadaptées à nos réalités\, modifiées voire même combattues s’il le\nfaut\, mais avec des arguments cohérents\, structurés\, réfléchis et\nscientifiquement irréfutables. Cette attitude non systématiquement\noppositionnelle peut porter ses fruits car l’administration sait\nparfois écouter les contre-propositions cohérentes et modifier\nses projets en les prenant en compte. C’est cela le pragmatisme\nprofessionnel : une réponse à nos tutelles qui soit adaptée à la\n« vraie vie » des chirurgiens orthopédistes français.\nNotre groupe professionnel doit apparaître sous sa double\nfacette d’organisme professionnel et scientifique\, en parallèle\net en osmose. L’unité\nsans uniformisation renforcera ainsi la voix de notre CNP en lui\ndonnant un maximum d’efficacité pour représenter et défendre\nnotre profession de chirurgien orthopédiste et traumatologue\,\ntout exercice confondu. SUMMARY:German Kongress of Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery (DKOU)
DESCRIPTION:Motion is Life\nis the congress theme of the German Congress of Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery 2017. Motion is a fundamental condition for our health – beginning with the various processes occurring every second in our body and finally resulting in the movement of our extremities. The loss of motion leads to functional deficits\, to the loss of mobility and to a serious restriction of the quality of life. Keeping our motion and regaining lost motion is therefore one of the key goals of orthopedic and trauma surgery. \nSports and Motion have manifested themselves in our society as important topics for many years now. Many of us are exercising sport to keep fit and for having fun; many elderly people want to keep up with the younger generation. Topics such as popular and professional sports with their potential risks\, the treatment of sport injuries\, but also their prevention are essential contents of the congress of orthopedic and trauma surgery. \nRegardless of age acute and chronic joint pain results in a restriction of joint motion. Regaining this lost motion through conservative treatment methods\, by joint-preserving measures but also by joint replacing operations are central parts of the modern orthopedic surgery. Similarly\, accidents cause motion restrictions\, pain and loss of mobility; muscle and soft tissue damage result in functional disturbances and can lead to a compromised circulation. Multiple severe injuries and their acute blood loss can finally result in a life-threatening cardiac arrest. The prevention of these sequela and the restoration of anatomy and function are the central part of the surgical treatment. \nOrthopedic and Trauma surgery incorporate a wide range of conservative treatment options\, joint preserving and joint reconstructing procedures including minimal-invasive surgical procedures\, optimized implants and joint replacing therapies. This is made possible by understanding the process of soft tissue healing and the origin of acute and chronic illnesses. \nThe various fields of orthopedic and trauma surgery with the underlying mechanisms as well as differentiated diagnostic tools and therapy and also the prevention and rehabilitation are topics of the DKOU 2017. The participation of the United States of America as this year’s guest nation will be a valuable enrichment for the congress\, which is become more and more international each year. \nAside from the scientific topics\, contemporary issues such as economical problems and the increasing regulation of education and working conditions will be discussed. The various societies\, sections and working groups will get the possibility to present their achievements and are invited for inter-collegial exchange. \nYou all are warmly welcome to participate with abstract submissions and attendance of our meeting. Already today we would like to draw your attention to the German Congress of Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery 2017 in Berlin. We are looking forward discussing with you the fascinating diagnostic and therapeutic options in orthopedics and traumatology with the goal of maintaining motion.

SUMMARY:Diabetic Foot Study Group  (DFSG)
DESCRIPTION:The aim of the Diabetic Foot Study Group (DFSG) of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) is to promote an advancement of knowledge on all aspects of diabetic foot care. This is done through active co-operation and collaboration between endocrinologists\, diabetologists\, podiatrists\, specialist nurses\, orthopaedic and vascular surgeons and other specialists with an interest in caring for diabetic patients with foot problems. \nPrevious meetings have gathered around 300 participants. A majority of these aremembers of the Diabetic Foot Study Group. Usually\, 50-60 % of the participants are physicians\, representing most centres of excellence working within the area of diabetes in Europe. Even a number of centres from the USA\, India\, Russia and Australia are represented.\nTraditionally\, the conference is held in connection with the much larger conferences of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD). Consequently\, the impact of the DFSG reaches far beyond the DFSG participants\, as their recommendations influence all interested in the area of diabetes through the following EASD meeting.\nThis meeting gathers up to 18\,000 specialists.
